A few hillside pastures are home to a small herd of carefully tended Angus steers and this is the livestock division of Thornhurst Farm. The hog-raising division is taking a year off to permit time for the division manager to manage the Coop’s Farmers Market Division,
an equally low-paying job. In fact, neither job pays anything, a fact Mrs. Wilcox has noticed but, in the exercise of exemplary good taste, has failed to comment upon. She is, after all, a farmers wife. A store by that name, also in Ancramdale, was founded on that very principle, i.e., that if the farmer’s wife expects to have any money, she had better go out and earn it herself because there’s no point in expecting it from farming. That store, which has no relation to the Wilcox’s except they go there every day for coffee and other edibles too scrumptious to describe here, is worth a visit.
